Motorcaravan Sites Review
By BRIAN DAUNCEY
Austria doesn't cater specifically for motorcaravans
particularly well, but things may be changing as motorcaravanning becomes more widespread.
In any case there are plenty of reasonably priced campsites available.
ELLMAU - Hartkaiserbahn funicular railway carpark. Free, unofficial overnight parking (OK - we checked at the Tourist Office). Beautiful setting, lovely town, quiet, slightly sloping. Plenty of room but no services. (June 2003).
FUSCHL AM SEE - Camping Seeholz - E of Salzburg (6226 310) Beautiful setting on edge of lake. Clean toilets (unlocked on request in low season). Bar and restaurant on site. Pretty village. 200 OS inc. showers. (Sept 1999).
HALL IN TYROL - Schwimmbad Campingplatz (5223 4546475) - 10Km E of Innsbruck. Small site under 1 km from attractive town centre. Restaurant on site. Can be windswept at this time of year (we parked away from the trees!). Clean facilities. 200 OS (Sept 1999).
KUFSTEIN - Camping Kufstein, Hotel zum Baren. Small campsite on main road out of Kufstein - grassed, shaded. WC, showers, chem WC disp. 14.05E/night. Elec. 2.50E. Walk along river to beautiful town and castle. (June 2003).
SAALFELDEN - P1 Zentrum car park - well signposted. Free unofficial overnight parking (not allowed at other car parks). No services, level, shaded. Central for visiting Saalfelden (lovely setting, beautiful lake). Quiet at night, but too crowded in morning (next to supermarket, shops). (June 2003).
